Staying Stylish While Travelling
Comfort should always come first, especially when you’re travelling. Having said that, you shouldn’t discount your personal style! Staying fashionable on your holiday is possible without having to over-pack or to go through the hassle of planning and coordinating all your day and night looks for the entire trip. In fact, you don’t even have to do that if you pack the right pieces. Here are a few travel-friendly wardrobe staples that will allow you to have a variety of options to mix and match, yet stay stylish for any occasion. Bonus? They won’t take up too much space in your suitcase!
Back to basics
The majority of your clothes should consist of basics – think plain tees, tanks, shorts and pants in solid or neutral colours. That way, you can easily pair your separates (including outerwear and shoes) to create new and different combos every day. Plus, a basic white or black tee (even jeans!) acts as the ultimate canvas for layering since they go with almost everything!
Few statement pieces
Steer away from being plain Jane (or John) by packing a few fun, statement pieces that can either be worn alone or seamlessly paired with your basics to inject a little colour. A bright printed top paired with shorts or jeans is great for casual daytime activities while a breezy maxi dress is an ideal summer staple that’s comfy 24/7.
Never underestimate the power of accessories to instantly elevate your outfit and add much-needed pizzazz to any ensemble. Pick fail-safe jewellery tones such as gold, silver and rose-gold that will go well with pretty much everything you pack. A simple leather or stainless steel watch also works well for both dressy and casual occasions. For an instant dash of cool, you can always rely on sunglasses or weather-appropriate headgears (for example, a fedora for summer or a knitted beanie for winter).
Speaking of basics, ladies should always pack a little black dress! It’s a classic piece that’s perfect for both casual and glamorous events, since it is versatile enough to be dressed up or down to suit the occasion. Sight-seeing in the city? Pair it with sneakers and a cross-body bag for a comfy get-up on-the-go. Headed to a fancy dinner? Slip your feet into a sexy pair of heels and grab a clutch to complete your outfit.
When in doubt, bring a scarf. This nifty piece of fabric is equally versatile as an LBD (if not more) as it works in so many ways: to pull your ensemble together, as a sarong, as a beach cover-up, as a towel and can even double up as a blanket to keep you warm in-flight!
